About Me
I am Tobias, and I’m writing software since I was 13.
The first programming language I learned was C++, because I wanted to know how to program video games. That was followed by some Q-BASIC, thanks to one of my teachers who started to teach a computer class after he found out that someone wanted to learn programming.
When I was in high school (Gymnasium in Germany), I had a lot of fun programming a chat application in C++ that wasn’t blocked by the school’s firewall. It even supported short commands to, for example, send direct messages while in a group chat. Later on, I implemented a 3D visualization of a real-life industrial robot with DirectX together with two other students - very close to my initial goal.
In my time studying computer science at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, I did coursework on software engineering and evolution, cognitive systems, speech recognition and cryptography. I wrote my Bachelor’s thesis about a tamper-resistant and secure way to store important documents in the cloud and learned Python in the process of implementing it.
For my Master’s thesis, I implemented algorithms to analyze the deployment of an instrumented cloud application, optimize and re-deploy its parts based on genetic algorithms and metamodels.
Currently, I am working at SAP SuccessFactors on the rule engine framework team.
In my spare time I am mostly occupied by my family. With a wife and two little kids, there is usually not much time left for other things. But if I can find the time, I like to read, play (beach) volleyball or spend time with friends.
